The model is missing or won't download

Last updated 9 October 2026

If ThatPrompt opens with Local model unavailable, the model file was deleted, moved or damaged. Choose Retry to download it again. If a download keeps failing, it's almost always the connection or disk space, and the message tells you which.

"Local model unavailable" when ThatPrompt starts

ThatPrompt checks its model every time it starts. If the file is gone or the wrong size, it shows Local model unavailable instead of the command palette. This usually happens after a disk clean-up app removed it, or after copying ThatPrompt's folder between computers.

  1. Choose Retry (or press Enter). ThatPrompt downloads the same model again.
  2. Or choose Pick a different model to download another one instead.

The screen closes by itself once the model is installed. Your prompts aren't affected.

The download fails during setup or in Settings

The message says what went wrong:

Message What to do
The download couldn't complete because of a connection problem. Check you're online and try again. ThatPrompt already retried a few times. The next try continues where it stopped.
There isn't enough free disk space to download this model. Free some space. You need the model's size plus about 100 MB. Or pick a smaller model.
The downloaded file didn't match what we expected. Try again. ThatPrompt deleted the damaged file and will fetch a clean one.
Download cancelled. Choose Try again when you're ready.
Something went wrong with the download. Try again. If it keeps happening, email us.

Models download from Hugging Face. If your network blocks huggingface.co, as some company networks do, the download can't work from that network. Try another one.

"No model fits this machine"

Every model needs a minimum amount of RAM installed, and the smallest needs 2 GB. If your computer has less, ThatPrompt can't run Enhance. See Models and system requirements.

A download seems stuck

If the percentage hasn't moved for a few minutes, choose Cancel, then start it again. It continues from where it stopped.
