Enhance a prompt
Last updated 9 October 2026
Select your prompt in any app and press Ctrl+Shift+E. ThatPrompt rewrites it with the model on your computer and shows you both versions side by side. You decide what happens next. Nothing is sent anywhere.
On a Mac that's the control key, not command. ThatPrompt shows it as ⌃⇧E. If you've changed the shortcut, use yours. See Change the keyboard shortcuts.
Before you start
- The model is installed. Setup downloads it for you. If it's missing, ThatPrompt tells you when it starts and offers to download it again.
- On a Mac, ThatPrompt has Accessibility permission. It needs it to read the text you selected and to paste the result back. Setup asks for it. Windows needs no permission.
Enhance text you've selected
- In any app, select the prompt you want to improve.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+E. ThatPrompt opens with your text and starts rewriting it. This can take several seconds, depending on your computer and the model you chose.
- Read Original and Enhanced side by side.
- Choose what to do with it:
| Action | Key | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Accept | Enter | Pastes the enhanced prompt back into the app you were in. If your text is still selected there, it replaces it. |
| Accept & Save | Cmd+Enter on a Mac, Ctrl+Enter on Windows | Pastes it, then opens Save so you can keep it in your library. |
| Save to Library | Cmd+S on a Mac, Ctrl+S on Windows | Opens Save without pasting anything. |
| Reject | Esc | Closes it. Nothing changes. |
Tab moves between the buttons. Each version also has a copy button if you only want it on your clipboard.
Or use the button that appears when you select text
When you select text in a text field in another app, a small ThatPrompt button floats next to it. Click it to enhance the selection, no shortcut needed. To turn it off, open Settings and switch off Show while selecting text under Features. On a Mac it needs the same Accessibility permission.
Enhance something you haven't written down yet
Press Ctrl+Shift+E with nothing selected. ThatPrompt opens with Enhance a prompt at the top of the list. Press Enter, type or paste your prompt, and choose Enhance.
Enhance a prompt you already saved
Open ThatPrompt, highlight the prompt in the list, and press Ctrl+Shift+E. It enhances that prompt instead.
What Enhance changes
It adds what a model needs to do a good job: context, constraints, the output you expect, and specifics you left implied. It's meant to keep your intent and the language you wrote in. Treat it as a strong draft. Read it before you accept it, because you know what you meant better than any model does.
