Docs / How to
Change the model
Last updated 9 October 2026
Open Settings, go to Model, and choose Use this model next to the one you want. ThatPrompt downloads it while your current model keeps working, switches over once it's checked, and then deletes the old one to free the space.
Which model to pick
A bigger model writes better prompts but takes longer and needs more memory. Setup already picked the most capable one your computer can run. Switch to a smaller one if Enhance feels too slow, or if you're short of disk space. See Models and system requirements for sizes and memory.
Switch models
- Click the ThatPrompt icon in your menu bar or system tray and choose Settings.
- Scroll to Model. Your current model is marked Active. Each model shows its size and how much RAM it needs.
- Choose Use this model on the one you want. Models your computer doesn't have enough memory for can't be picked.
- Wait for Downloading to reach 100% and Verifying... to finish. You can keep using ThatPrompt meanwhile, on your current model.
When it's done, the new model is Active.
If the download stops
- Cancel stops it. Your previous model stays active. Starting the same model again carries on from where it stopped, rather than starting over.
- Connection problem. ThatPrompt retries a few times by itself, then asks you to try again. It also picks up where it left off.
- Not enough disk space. ThatPrompt checks before it starts and tells you. Free some space and try again.
- The downloaded file didn't match what we expected. ThatPrompt checks every download against a known fingerprint, so a damaged file is never used. Try again.
Your previous model stays active in every one of these cases.
Where models come from
Models download from Hugging Face, where their makers publish them. ThatPrompt only uses files that match the exact fingerprint it expects.
