The shortcut does nothing
Last updated 9 October 2026
Most of the time it's one of three things. On a Mac, you're pressing command instead of control. Another app has taken the same shortcut. Or ThatPrompt isn't running. Work down this list.
1. On a Mac, use control, not command
The default is control+shift+P, shown as ⌃⇧P. command+shift+P is a different shortcut, and many apps use it for their own command palette. If you'd rather use command, change the shortcut.
2. Another app has the same shortcut
Only one app can own a shortcut. If something else on your computer took Ctrl+Shift+P first, ThatPrompt can't have it, and it doesn't warn you when it starts.
To check, open Settings from the ThatPrompt icon in your menu bar or system tray, go to Shortcuts, and set the shortcut again. If it's taken, ThatPrompt now tells you, and you can pick another combination.
3. ThatPrompt isn't running
ThatPrompt has no window and no Dock or taskbar icon while it waits. Look for its icon in the menu bar (Mac) or the system tray (Windows). On Windows it may be in the hidden icons, behind the ^ arrow.
No icon means it isn't running. Open it again from Applications (Mac) or wherever you extracted it (Windows). To have it start with your computer, turn on Launch on startup in Settings.
4. Setup isn't finished, or your licence isn't active
- During setup only the Enhance shortcut works, so you can try it on the last step. The other shortcuts start working when you finish setup.
- Without an active licence ThatPrompt shows the Licence screen and none of the shortcuts work. Once your licence is active, they work straight away. See Pricing.
