ThatPrompt vs online prompt optimisers

Last updated 22 October 2026. Details about Prompt Genie, teleprompt checked on 21 October 2026.

The short answer

Prompt optimisers like Prompt Genie and teleprompt are browser extensions that rewrite your prompt inside ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. ThatPrompt is a $39 desktop app that rewrites prompts on a model running on your own computer, in any app, and keeps the results in a library you paste from with one shortcut.

When an online prompt optimiser is the better choice

  • You only use AI in the browser and want the improver inside the chat box itself.
  • You want to try it free first. Prompt Genie's free plan gives you one prompt a day. ThatPrompt has no free plan, though you can get a refund within 14 days.
  • You want the rewrite fast on any computer. A cloud model answers quickly. ThatPrompt's model runs on your hardware, so Enhance takes several seconds, and longer on an older machine.
  • You share prompts with a team. Prompt Genie has a Team plan, and ThatPrompt has no sharing.

When ThatPrompt is the better choice

  • Your prompts hold code, customer details or plans you'd rather not send to another AI service. Enhance runs on your computer, and nothing in your prompt leaves it.
  • You use AI outside the browser too: Cursor, a terminal, the ChatGPT or Claude desktop apps. Select the text in any app and press Ctrl+Shift+E (⌃⇧E on a Mac).
  • You want to keep the improved prompt and use it again. Save it, and it's a shortcut and a few letters away from then on.
  • You'd rather pay once and never count prompts. ThatPrompt is $39, with no daily limit.
  • You work offline. Enhance works with no connection once the model is downloaded.

Questions

Is PromptPerfect still available?

No. PromptPerfect's own app says it is no longer available after 1 September 2026, following Elastic's acquisition of Jina AI, the company that made it. If you used it to improve prompts, ThatPrompt's Enhance does that job on your own computer.

What about OpenAI's and Anthropic's prompt tools?

Both are made for developers testing prompts for their own apps, inside each company's web console. OpenAI has announced that its dataset-backed prompt optimizer shuts down on 30 November 2026. ThatPrompt is for the prompts you write every day, in any app.

Is a local model as good as a cloud one at improving prompts?

It's much smaller than a cloud model, and slower on a laptop. That's why Enhance doesn't ask it to rewrite freely. It asks the model for five short parts (a role, the context, the task, the shape of the answer and what good looks like) and assembles them. See How Enhance works.

Does ThatPrompt work inside ChatGPT in the browser?

Yes. Select your prompt in the ChatGPT box and press Ctrl+Shift+E (⌃⇧E on a Mac). ThatPrompt shows the improved version next to yours, and Accept pastes it back in its place. It works the same in any other app.
